Our objective at Pleasant Chapel is to encourage spiritual travelers on their journey.

At Pleasant Chapel, you will find youth, singles, young families with children, and senior adults.  You will find people with different Christian backgrounds and those who have had limited church experiences.  All are welcome whether you are in a t-shirt or a tie!

Our desire at Pleasant Chapel is to provide an atmosphere where we all can worship and glorify God together.

Pleasant Chapel believes:

  • That the Bible is the inspired Word of God
  • That Jesus is the son of God and Mary, his mother, was a virgin
  • That Christ died on the cross and came back to life after three days
  • In the Trinity - God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit
  • In regular "special services" - Communion, Baptism and Feet Washing

We believe that when you’ve asked Jesus to take control of your life, the Holy Spirit comes into you to help you make good decisions, decisions that please God.  God’s goal is to make you like Christ, make you perfect. Though we will never become “perfect”, we are always striving to please God in what we do, say, and think.

Pleasant Chapel believes that our main purpose as individuals is to bring glory to God. 1 Cor. 10:31 says to do all to the glory of God.   This includes your personal life, work life, and church life. Being a follower of Christ is a "daily thing" not just "going to church on Sunday".  We believe that one of our main purposes as a church body is to help others come to Christ and encourage believers on their spiritual journey.

"Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God--this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will."            Romans 12:12, NIV

Pastor Steve has lived in the Lancaster area his entire life and has been the Primary Pastor since 2004. Prior to that, he served as Pleasant Chapel's Associate Pastor for seven years. Pastor Steve is a 2002 Graduate of Ohio Christian University in Circleville, Ohio.  His unconventional preaching style is a hit with young and old!

Pastor Steve and Stacey have been married for 23 years and they have four children. Their oldest two daughters attend Ohio University –Lancaster. Their youngest daughter is in high school and their son is in elementary school.

Their son was adopted from Ethiopia at the age of 3 1/2. It was an exciting and challenging time in their lives and it was amazing to see God work in and through the adoption process. Little Man's Adoption Story shares what God did in greater detail. Pastor and his wife will gladly talk to you about adoption at any time but feel strongly that God must lead you to do so.

Pleasant Chapel Church of God began as fervent prayer for a ministry in Lancaster, Ohio.  Rose Rauch, Pastor Steve’s grandmother, was instrumental in beginning the church under the leadership of Pastor Bob Rauch.  At that time, our church was affiliated with God’s Acres church of God in Newark, Ohio and the families were interested in beginning a local congregation rather than travel to Newark weekly.  On July 9, 1972, the church began Sunday services with 19 adults and several children. For two years, the church was located on Columbus Street in a store front building.  We then purchased a church property on Main Street and worshipped there for the next sixteen years.

During those years, Pleasant Chapel grew to a size of 250 people with a thriving bus ministry through the late 70’s, a Christian school from 1981-1990, and a Radio Station, WFCO 90.9fm, which began in 1988 and still continues today.Bob Rauch, Pastor Steve’s father, was the primary pastor from 1972 through 2004. In 1997 Pastor Steve was ordained through the Church of God Reformation Movement in Anderson, Indiana.  Pastor Steve was employed by the church in 1997 as the Associate Pastor and when Pastor Bob retired in 2004, Pastor Steve was approved as our new pastor.

The church moved from Main Street to Joye Lane in Berne Township in 1990 and remained there until the end of 2005.  At that time, the decision was made to build a church facility on land in Pleasant Township.  During the building process, we worshipped at the Seventh Day Adventist Church on State Route 188.  Pleasant Chapel moved from its temporary location on State Route 188 to its current location August 2008.
